Savings and tomorrow

I found this poem on one of my friend, Vinoo John's blog. Interesting read.
Reflects the mindset of many of us who were/are waiting for tommorrows to start investing :-)

I hesitate to make a LIST
Of all the countless opportunities I've MISSED
Bonanzas that were in my GRIP
I watched them through my fingers SLIP

The windfalls that I should have BOUGHT
We lost because I OVERTHOUGHT
I thought of this, I thought of THAT
I could have swore I smelled a RAT

And while I thought things over TWICE
Another grabbed them at the PRICE
It seems I always HESITATE
And make my mind up much too LATE

A very cautious human am I
And that is why I never BUY
When others culled those sprawling FARMS
And welcomed contracts with open ARMS
I chose to think and while I THOUGHT
They bought the deals I could have BOUGHT

The golden chances I had THEN
Today I cannot be ENTICED
For everything's so OVERPRICED
At times a teardrop drowns my EYES
For opportunities I had but did not BUY
And now life's saddest words I PEN
"if only I'd invested THEN"

First time

I got my car to the office for the first time this Monday. I have been using the Mysore Road for the past 5 years now and I always thought MR traffic (Mysore Road) was much better compared to the other roads in Bangalore and yes it was…. on my bike.

We (meaning, the 2 wheeler community on MR) have a separate dedicated lane for our vehicles, which is a small gap between the footpath and actual tar road, which is much faster than the big road beside. No such luck for cars and worse that there is no separate lane for Maruti Alto cars.

I would have had to apply for a half a day leave if I was late by few minutes more. Luckily I could find a parking slot in our parking lot and it took me 15 minutes & the help of a watchman, building supervisor and our office assistant to park the car in the right slot. I was very proud of the total team effort.

Late in the evening, a “special guest” was to come the Mcdowell office above us and I was told I wud have to remove my car if the guest’s car was too big to accommodate. The thought of reversing the vehicle, finding another slot and parking it made my coffee taste bitter. Luckily I dint have to, as both the cars could find place. Thanks to Mallya's driver. :-)

Kariya

“Kariya, I love u” is the most popular Kannada song from the kannada movie “Duniya” for the past few weeks now. “Kariya” is what we started calling this dog in the photo when it made friends with us 4 years back.

Living on the streets and visiting, feeding at houses around, it has been a nice dog and quite intelligent too besides being very faithful. The way it jumps the compounds of the surrounding houses amuses the kids.

Though it has acquitted quite well with the people around, the problem is that it starts barking vigorously at passers by and threatens to bite. Though there has never been an instance of it biting anybody (at least not to my knowledge), it’s quite natural that the targeted people get worked up and are annoyed. There are at least 2 or 3 people cursing, swearing at it every single day and most of the times we are at the receiving end since it jumps into our compound when threatened. :-)

Can’t even chain it as it has always been free and is not used to it .Need to contact any of the animal welfare associations and handover it. Tough decision.

Right from the “scratch”

It’s been month since I bought an Alto Lxi and many of my friends were quite surprised (and disappointed) that I still dint have a scratch on the car.

Finally, on 30th of June 2007, the moment came. It was on my beloved Mysore Road, that a friendly neighbor on the road, an auto driver decided midway that he was going to reverse his auto and thus left his “mark” on the left door (and on my heart).

The fading evening light was kind enough to hide the mark temporarily and it was the day light the next day which enlightened me with the harsh reality.

The opening blues have started to fade away and I have started to get along quite nicely with the car and the “scar”.
